Biography
Steve’s exploration of the subjects and technologies evolves as he evolves himself. He is enthralled by the beauty of the world around him, and his mission is to capture that world in such a way that leaves the viewer inspired, …or moved.
Steve Pitre was born in 1977 in Shefferville, a mining town at the time, in Northern Quebec. When his family moved to the Gaspesie peninsula, his passion for photography was born and later was nurtured at Cegep de Matane, one of the top photography programs in Canada. He went on to study at the University of Quebec at Chicoutimi in an interdisciplinary BA program focusing on cinema and video. After 4 years of formal study Steve went on to travel and applied his lessons from school and became an apprentice to light and shadow as he photographed the world around him.
Steve is now active in the creative film, video and photography community; collaborating with people on projects and offering his skills and vision. Steve’s contractual work experience includes: Director of photography, camera operator, still photographer, camera assistant and lighting designer on feature films, short films, and documentaries. As an independent videographer and photographer, Steve works for various production companies on projects and events such as parties and galas, fashion weeks, concerts, weddings, performances, interviews and workshops.
Ultimately, Steve wants his work to encourage critical thinking on humanity’s global connection. He believes media is an agent for social change and can influence assertive compassion and mindful living.
